Oregon’s Statewide Assessment System – Upcoming Transition to Smarter Balanced, IMESD Nov. 4, 1-4:00 pm

Doug Kosty (Assistant Superintendent, Office of Learning) and Derek Brown (Director of Assessment) from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) will be discussing the upcoming transition to the Smarter Balanced assessment system.  Specific topics will include but are not limited to the Field Test, formative and interim tools, and accommodations.  In addition, Doug and Derek will explain the impact of the upcoming transition on current graduation requirements, and will describe work currently underway to complete a comprehensive review of graduation policies.  Other general assessment topics will include the Kindergarten assessment and Oregon’s participation as the lead agency in the English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA21) Consortium.

The session is intended to provide informational updates in a conversational format.  Throughout the discussion, Doug and Derek will field questions and listen to ideas from participants about how ODE can support teachers, students, and districts through the upcoming transition.  This session is not intended specifically for educators, and may include other members of the community such as parents, school board members, students, business and postsecondary partners.
