Kindergarten Transition Buddies

Guidelines for Kindergarten Transition Buddies

The purpose of Transition Buddies is to assist the classroom staff in ensuring a smooth transition into Kindergarten during a child’s first few days of school.  With this in mind, please remember the following guidelines:

  1. Requests for a Transition Buddy should be made before July 1st.  Any requests after this time might not be able to be accommodated, but will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  2. The number of IMESD staff available to assist with Transition Buddies is limited. Therefore, requests will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Depending on child need, IMESD staff will remain in the classroom from 2 to 4 hours for up 2 days.  Exceptions to this must be discussed with the IMESD EI/ECSE Director prior to the time when the transition buddy will be in the classroom.
  3. For children requiring additional adult assistance, per the IEP, the district will have the district designated assistant available when IMESD staff is providing transition assistance.
  4. IMESD staff will share ideas, programs, pictures, activities, etc. that the child has been using. IMESD staff will not be creating these items for use in the Kindergarten classroom.
