Incorporating Cross-Curricular Ideas into Lessons to Enhance Best PracticesMiddle level and high school teachersAugust 3, 8:30 am - 3:30 pmI have found that making connections across the curriculum spectrum enhances a student's understanding of how a lesson links the concept to the world outside of the classroom walls. We will be exploring resources from best practices, current technology, and differentiated instruction practices to enhance and expand lessons. Writer's Workshop in Action & Adobe Spark/Video

Aug 10 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM

(Professional Development)-Professional Development

Writer's Workshop in Action & Adobe Spark/Video4th - 12thAugust 10, 8:30 - 10 amCurious about Writer's Workshop? Want to learn how to integrate writing and video creation? Traditionally, the workshop method is very open-ended; this particular project is more guided as it begins to introduce choice, mentor texts, revision, and developing a published piece.

This lesson is one I use to introduce the Writer's Workshop and get to know my students in a creative and personal way. I usually spend about two weeks with my middle school students on this project at the beginning of the year. This PD session will give you hands-on practice as you read, annotate, and analyze a mentor text, form your own writing, revise, and develop that piece into a video letter using the free program AdobeSpark. You will be provided with a lesson plan and actionable ways to scale this up (for 9-12 graders) or down (for 4-5 graders). Learn the program, get a lesson plan, and spend the day writing and creating together.
