Athletic coaches who work with Grade 6-12 athletes in IMESD’s component school districts can still register to attend a Coaching Symposium on Thursday, August 10th from 8 AM to 2:30 PM at Pendleton High School (1800 NW Carden Ave., Pendleton). The FREE event is a professional development opportunity for coaches to collaborate and learn from each other before the 23-24 school year.

The event will kick off with Keynote Speaker Tom Bendt, who is the founder of Conversations and Coaching in Portland speaking on “Culture Starts with You.” According to his website (conversationsandcoaching.com), when he was an athletic director, Brendt “immersed myself in helping coaches build positive team cultures that emphasized character development. I believe that everyone benefits from being coached and being coachable.”

Staff from the following schools and organizations will present at the Coaching Symposium: Blue Mountain Community College, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon University, OSAA, Oregon Athletic Coaches Association, Birch Creek Golf Course, Eastern Oregon Physical Therapy, high schools in Athena-Weston, Echo, Helix, Heppner, Nixyaawii, Pendleton, Pilot Rock, Stanfield and Sunset High School (Portland).

Troy Jerome, Superintendent of Pilot Rock School District, has worked with IMESD to organize the event. “This is a great opportunity for school coaching staffs to be inspired by our keynote speaker, receive state updates and connect with other coaches in their sports to learn from each other's experiences and network," Jerome said.

School districts can also fulfill the mandatory Administrator Workshop requirement from OSAA at the symposium; for details visit https://www.osaa.org/administr...
