smiling student enjoys marshmallow in class

The students in IMESD’s Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) class in Irrigon had some holiday fun before Winter Break with a fun party in their classroom on December 14th. Students were able to engage in free time before their holiday meal; some finished wrapping Christmas ornaments they had made that week, others decided to engage in free play with some toys in the classroom. After clean-up time, students sat down to enjoy a holiday snack.

The kids were instructed to pour the contents of their chocolate packets into their cup and stir once the hot water had been poured in by an adult. For some students, the water was too hot, and milk was added to their cups.  Students waited patiently to get festive cookies, marshmallows, and Goldfish crackers on their plates. The kids were playful, laughing a lot! They seemed excited about the hot chocolate and having a visitor in class. Most opted for the peppermint-flavored hot chocolate, some stuck with original. After their holiday party, students went outside for some recess before departing home for winter break.

Classroom teacher Angela Binning shared that most of her students are going to be kindergarteners next year.  Binning states that she has been using a storybook model in her teaching this year, this includes reading stories with the children, and crating crafts that are related to the story itself. Here is a photo of a popcorn bag, that was made when her class reviewed the tale “If You Take A Mouse to the Movies.”
