employee spotlight

IMESD is currently highlighting our Early Learning Services Department. Meet one of their employees!

Avery Foutz is an EI/ECSE Specialist in the Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education program.

Can you describe your job? I provide Early Childhood Special Education to students three to five years old. I believe in meeting students where they are at, building on their strengths and teaching foundational skills with a play-based approach.

How does your job contribute to student success in our region? I believe my work helps students in a variety of ways. I consult with our team of specialists to implement daily activities and focus on a child’s individual goals. I am lucky enough to work with a fabulous team -- Alicia Anderson and Guadalupe Garza -- and we work closely to teach our specialized instruction.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I love that we are able to provide special education services to vulnerable students and teach skills that will help them be successful.

What is something people may not know about your job? I think the level of detail that goes into our planning process may not be apparent to someone who just walks into our classroom. We work behind the scenes to make sure our classroom is accessible, age appropriate and inclusive and that activities are focused on our student’s individualized goals.
